The Child Development Center (CDC) at PCC Sylvania revitalizes a vital campus program through a blend of new construction and adaptive reuse. The project includes a 9,000-square-foot facility, 5,000 square feet of renovated space, and three age-specific outdoor play environments designed to foster sensory exploration, motor development, and early environmental literacy.

Nature-themed play areas feature boulder scrambles, mini boardwalks, interactive water elements, an elevated “treehouse,” and tricycle paths, inviting children to explore, imagine, and connect with the natural world. Designed to serve both students and the wider community, the CDC reflects PCC’s broader campus transformation by improving accessibility, modernizing infrastructure, and creating inclusive, flexible learning spaces that support early childhood education and the next generation of learners.

As a Senior Landscape Architect with Mayer/Reed, Tim Strand was project manager and design lead for this project.
